Welfare Reform |

In Indiana and other states across the nation "welfare reform" is not working.
- In many situations where workfare programs have been created to deal with this job gap, workfare participants have been forced to work without health and safety protections and for sub-minimum wages.
- Without proper safeguards, workfare programs also put current employees at risk of being displaced out of their jobs.
- While "welfare reform" may succeed in ending "welfare as we know it," it is not making a dent in poverty, as we know it. "Welfare reform" programs deny education and training opportunities, ignore child care and transportation needs, and thus offer little hope of leading to full-time permanent family-supporting jobs.
- "Welfare reform" has only created a boom industry for private corporations who want to take over public functions and divert public dollars into private profits.
